If you haven’t read my Year in Review for 2018, please do so. It gives a ton of context for my goals for 2019. 2018 was a building year. We recovered from a rough 2017, grew together as a family, got healthy, and began dreaming of the future. That future is the one I’m building in 2019.

Builder Blocks

I launched Builder Blocks at the very end of 2018 after returning from WordCamp US in Nashville. I was looking for a new project and took Matt Mullenweg’s advice to heart. So 2019 is gonna be a year full of block building.

Builder Blocks will be focused on blocks that help site builders, those that help build sites for clients. If you’re an agency, freelancer, or DIY-er we want to build blocks that help you! Our first vertical will be restuarant websites. Next, we’re going to work on the medical vertical. We’d love to hear from you on what verticals we should plan for next.

BuddyDrive

BuddyDrive received lots of my time and attention in 2018. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite make it to my goal of a major release. So that’s what I’m planning on doing the first quarter of 2019. I’ve been slowly rewriting BuddyDrive and can’t wait to release the new version to the world!

Personal

I’m very excited about some of my personal goals for 2019. In 2018, I lost more than 100lbs. In 2019, I’m taking it up a notch and working on losing 150lbs. I’m also planning on working out 3 times per week. I focused on weight loss through diet last year, but want to work on building strength and cardio fitness in addition to my diet this year.

I also want to work on reading more books in 2019. In 2018, I read 15 books or so. But mostly I read articles online. I read several thousand. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that the quality of what I read online was not as high as what I was finding in books. So in 2019, I want to read 25 books.

Mission Plannr

Mission Plannr is a passion project for me. I firmly believe in creating incredible software experiences for nonprofits and churches. Giving them the tools they need to further their missions is something I’ll always love.

Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to give Mission Plannr a lot of love in the past few years. So in the second quarter of 2019, it’s getting a complete rewrite. Currently, it is built on top of WordPress. While I love WordPress, it isn’t right for this project in the long term. So I’ll be choosing between a few languages and frameworks and putting it on a more solid foundation.

Unity

One of the ways I’m seeking to grow and stretch myself in the new year is by exploring a hobby that takes me outside of my comfort zone. For 2019, I’m doing that by creating a video game. I’ve been toying with this idea for a few years, but am finally taking the plunge. I’ve been exploring concepts for a few months and am just about ready to start putting code down and dive in. While I don’t have a lot of details I’m ready to share, suffice it to say it is going to push me further in design, development, and lots of other ways than I’ve ever been!

Wrapping Up

2019 is shaping up to be a fantastic year. Lots of new projects, lots of updates to old ones, and moving forward in my skills, personal life, and professional skillset. What are you planning for 2019? I’d love to hear!
